We are living in a constant change. Everything is changing. Some changes are small and insignificant. Some are insignificant to some people. Some are relevant to all and very important as well. To be on top of the game when it truly matters, you have to manage it.
The ADGAR model is one that is often used. It focuses on Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and Reinforcement.
In Moticheck, you can easily monitor your change management process according to ADKAR. Just use the 5-option numeric scale for responding, and list these questions in a separate category. You may opt to switch off the other categories of questions to enable a sharper focus. But this is not a must. And you can address the question to only the teams that are affected by the change.
The ADKAR model is divided into two phases from a leadership point of view. The ADK er the enablement zone, whereas the A and R are the engagement zone. To follow up on the enablement and engagement, you could ask your employees for feedback on these aspects:
Awareness – explaining the need for change
- I understand the business reasons for the change.
- I understand the risks of not changing.
- I understand the impact on my day-to-day work activities.
Desire – gauging the desire for change
- I am personally motivated to be part of the change.
- I look forward to the new, changed environment.
- My peers support the change.
Knowledge – building the skills to make the change
- I have the skills and knowledge to be successful during the change.
- I have the skills and knowledge to be successful after the change.
- Training has been adequate to prepare me.
Ability – supporting the business through change
- I have the ability to perform the new duties required by the change.
- I can get support when I have problems and questions.
- I have practiced performing in the new environment.
Reinforcement – building on the change and embedding it.
- The organisation is committed to keeping the change in place.
- I know the consequences of not performing my new activities.
- I am rewarded for performing in a new way.
