🎙 Webinar recap: Backing Leaders Isn’t a Nice-to-Have. It’s a Business Strategy

Categories

In a fast-moving world of hybrid teams, digital acceleration, and mounting pressure, leadership can often feel like a solitary game. But when the stakes are high and change is constant, supporting your leaders isn’t optional — it’s a business-critical strategy.

That was the core message of our recent live webinar, hosted by Moticheck, featuring leadership coach Daryl Seager, and Moticheck founders Martin Rajasalu and Pille Parind-Nisula. Together, they explored the rising complexity, isolation, and emotional toll that managers face today — and the real ways organizations can actually help.

The Modern Leadership Dilemma

Moticheck’s Pille Parind-Nisula kicked off the conversation by naming the elephant in the room: complexity. Leaders today must juggle empathy, performance pressure, cross-border teams, and rapid tech transformation — all at once.

And it’s lonely at the top. Especially for mid-level and first-line managers, who often find themselves sandwiched between strategy and execution — expected to lead without enough time, tools, or support. The result? Burnout, disengagement, and a worrying leadership gap.

“It’s easy to get trapped being very lonely there,” said Martin. “You have a team and you have a manager, but you’re alone in the role.”

Data Alone Isn’t the Answer

The solution isn’t more dashboards — it’s better support systems. As the conversation progressed, the panelists emphasized that simply collecting engagement data isn’t enough.

“Data alone doesn’t trigger action,” Martin noted.

“It’s emotion plus data that leads to action.”

The panel shared that organizations often track sales or production in real time, but fail to do the same with sentiment data — how employees actually feel about their work, team dynamics, or leadership. That’s where Moticheck’s daily monitoring and AI-led mentoring comes in — turning feedback into meaningful coaching moments for leaders.

Embracing AI with Empathy

AI was a major thread in the discussion. While some companies are still cautious, others are embracing AI as a way to deliver personalized, real-time support for leaders.

“We have clients who choose Moticheck because of the AI. And others who say,

‘Please don’t mention the AI — we’re not ready,’” said Pille.

But like it or not, AI is already here. Leaders use it daily, whether they realize it or not. That’s why the panel argued that HR teams must lead the strategic conversation, helping managers adopt tools that simplify — not complicate — their work.

What Actually Works: Practical Examples

Beyond theory, the webinar was packed with real examples of what works in modern leadership support:

  • Internal training from top-level managers, when budgets are tight.

  • Sentiment monitoring is integrated into one-on-one conversations.

  • Peer support and internal mentoring to empower first-time managers.

  • AI bots that free up HR teams by answering repetitive questions — as shared by a Telia case study.

Ultimately, the most effective support blends tech and human touch, giving leaders a space to reflect, grow, and act — without being overwhelmed.

A Note on Women in Leadership

As a women’s leadership coach, Daryl highlighted the added challenges women face — from visibility gaps to confidence hurdles. The message was clear: leadership development must be inclusive, intersectional, and long-term.

“It’s not about doing a training once,” said Daryl.

“It’s about building sustainable behavior change over 12, 24, or even 36 months.”

Final Takeaways

Here are three reminders we’ll carry forward from the session:

  1. Leadership is complex, but not impossible — with the right insight and support.

  2. HR must lead strategically — not just administratively — in building leadership culture.

  3. Backing your leaders is a business strategy, not a wellness perk.

“Good leadership isn’t a nice-to-have,” said Martin.

“It’s how businesses thrive in complexity.”
